thirty questions for the new year

i don’t have new year’s resolutions. i only have questions. these are my 30 questions for 2011:

is this the year of the poncho?

is this the year that we resolve to take all of our vacations?

is this the year in which domestic air travel becomes less degrading?

is this the year in which we hold ourselves to a higher standard?

is this the year that we dare not to be cool?

is this the year in which we run out of sushi?

is this the year that we topple some of our largest institutions?

is this the year of generosity?

is this the year where we risk everything?

is this the year in which sound-minded people throw-up from the overuse of terms such as handcrafted, d.i.y., and artisanal?

is this the year in which we finish the project?

is this the year in which we confront dishonesty?

is this the year in which the cupcake takes its leave?

is this the year that we kick cancer?

is this the year in which we reimagine a darker side of where’s waldo?

is this the year of sustainable partnerships? and how about applying that to handheld technology?

is this the year in which more of us realise the greatness of lynne ramsay?

is this the year in which the hipster finally dies?

is this the year that we create our own tools?

is this the year that we stopped being angry?

is this the year in which we confidently develop an aptitude for declaring yes to the endeavors that nourish us and no to the obligations that enervate us?

is this the year in which we examine the company that we keep?

is this the year of fellowship?

is this the year that brooklyn takes a backseat to queens?

is this the year for a 41-year-old director to make his feature film debut using a canon G12 as his camera?

is this the year that we start demanding more from mushrooms?

is this the year that we reach out across the aisle?

is this the year that the gap between generations feels more like a footbridge?

is this the year that the empire crumbles?

is this the year that the mets get it right?

is this the year that we remember?

is this the year in which we run out of sushi?

is this the year that we topple some of our largest institutions?

is this the year in which the hipster finally dies?

is this the year where we let go of september 11, 2001 as a blunt instrument for political gain? it’s been ten years.

is this the year of generosity?

is this the year of transparency?

is this the year in which most yoga practices are finally exposed as frauds?

is this the year of the sweeping romantic gesture?

is this the year that we rediscover the use of the words store and nincompoop.

is this the year in which we buy more art?

is this the year that boys grow up?

is this the year of fellowship?

is this be the year that parents stop treating restaurants like an extension of their homes?
